~Writing Well Wednesday Tip~
Looking for the perfect writing snack?
I’ve got it for you: nuts.
These little guys are nutrient powerhouses, and have a number of health benefits for writers:
- They are good sources of protein, and will help keep you satisfied between meals, increasing your odds of maintaining a healthy weight.
- They provide healthy omega-3 fatty acids, which help reduce inflammation, and have also been linked to a reduced risk of heart disease, cancer, and arthritis.
- According to a recent study, nuts may help lower risk of colon cancer recurrence and death.
- They have a stabilizing effect on your blood sugar, and reduce your risk of becoming insulin-resistant—helping to prevent type 2 diabetes.
- Nuts are a good source of fiber, which helps lower your cholesterol and keeps you feeling fuller, longer.
- Nuts contain l-arginine, which helps keep your blood vessels more flexible and less prone to blood clots.
- Nuts are good sources of vitamin E, which is a powerful antioxidant that can help keep your arteries clear and open.
On top of that, nuts are tasty and crunchy, so they make a very satisfying snack. Just be careful to stick to only a handful, as they tend to be high in calories. If you eat too many, despite their benefits, you could gain weight.
A standard serving of nuts is a small handful (about 1.5 ounces) or two tablespoon of nut butter. Try a few mixed nuts, or some nut butter spread on a couple whole-grain crackers for an energy-boosting, mind-focusing snack.
Enjoy!
