When A Writer Needs Some Inspiration…

~Writing Well Wednesday Tip~

Sometimes a writer has to go back to the beginning.

Back to where it all started, where that first spark of inspiration lived, to that place where the writer inside first came to life.

Daily living and the “busyness” of a writer’s modern-day career tends to take us further and further away from the source of creativity—that underground reservoir of ideas and imagination.

When you feel your writing routine is starting to lose a little of its magic, when writing seems more like a daily “to-do” than an escape into the dreamworld, it’s time to take a dip into that original pool of inspiration.

How do you do that? Personally, I like to listen to interviews from some of my favorite authors.

Here’s one I found recently with Andre Dubus III and Elizabeth Strout. They both answer a number of questions about writing, helping listeners to get back to what really matters: the work.
