Handwritten Notes

How Writing More Handwritten Notes Can Help Us Connect

When was the last time you composed handwritten notes? Author and leadership coach Carrie Pierce wrote a book about why you may want to get back into the habit!

There’s something about getting cards, notes, and letters that’s both exciting and unexpected.

They lend a unique and very special connection that you can’t get through a text or email.

I’ve always been a note writer, saving all of my notes and taking pictures of notes before I send them. In the back of my mind I always knew I’d write this book.

The Ritual of Writing Handwritten Notes Can Help Us Reconnect

After seeing the isolating effects of technology and social media on our lives especially witnessing my own kids glued to their phones, I felt inspired to write about the power of handwritten notes to snap us out of this self-focused trance.

I wanted to share how the ritual of note writing can help us reconnect, reflect, and focus on more important things beyond the virtual world.

Furthermore, I wanted to show how notes can serve as a powerful business tool, offering a unique experience that can set you apart from the masses.

The Biggest Challenge I Faced Writing “Handwritten Notes”

Practicing humility while illustrating the unlimited potential for business success.

One of the points I make in the book is to avoid boasting and bragging, at the same time I needed to prove how valuable it can be and my own success was evidence.

It was difficult to strike that balance between modesty and telling my success story.

I Chose to Write to Maintain a Positive Outlook

At the time I was writing the book, my father had just been discharged from a 90-day stint in the hospital, we almost lost him, and I ended a 14-year marriage.

It was a challenging period in my life.

I chose to write during this time to help maintain a positive outlook despite the emotional hardship. Writing the book helped me gain a more positive perspective and showed my 3 girls a healthy way to deal with life’s challenges.

My Dad Encouraged Me Not to Take Life Too Seriously

When I finished the book I included the dedication: To my Dad, who fired me up with motivational sayings like “only lazy people write books.”

Dad inspires me in many ways and he embodies the lifting up of others mindset taught in the book, as you’ll read in the book, but he also encourages me not to take life too seriously.

The dedication hit just the right note and although it may land tongue in cheek to readers, for me it was more sentimental.

Putting a Book Out Into the World is Humbling

Putting a book out into the world makes you feel vulnerable in a unique way, it’s humbling.

It also helped me expand my thinking on the topic. Although I already believed in the power of handwritten notes and experienced it first hand, doing the research drove home the belief stronger than ever before.

This small, simple practice can make a big impact in people’s lives. I’m more convinced than ever and its important for me to get the word out there so others can experience the benefits.

How I Got Handwritten Notes to #1 Bestseller Status

Munn Avenue Press was the single best resource I used to get my book to #1 bestseller status.

They run the gamut between Amazon Ads and other marketing tools. As a newer author I liked their affordability factor as well.

Why You Should Read Handwritten Notes!

Three things I hope readers take away from the book:

  1. Writing notes is a ritual, even if you never send the note, you’ll have gained something.
  2. Focus entirely on the other person and tell them why they are important.
  3. Notes can set you apart in the business world if done strategically well.

The Book

Handwritten Notes: When was the last time you hand-wrote a note to someone?

In a world of technology, digital numbness is rapidly spreading, resulting in a lack of human connection and an increase in loneliness. A world full of connection and joy is not impossible — we just have to create it.

Note writing is a small but amazingly effective way to do just that. The act of sitting down to sincerely think about another human being is a soul-filling concept you can incorporate into any aspect of your daily life.

Carrie Pierce is a leadership coach and self-described noteologist, having handwritten over 10,000 notes and this book. As it turns out, there’s genuine science behind this note-writing business.

Pierce not only makes the case for handwriting notes, she also provides practical examples and how-tos that make the process enjoyable and the results impactful.

Handwriting notes can both improve your personal life and be an effective way to reach business goals–by writing notes to the folks at work—to clients, your team, your boss.

Plus, note writing trains kids to express themselves, and consider others—the antidote to the chronic self-focus inherent in social media and screen addiction.

The thank you note, the love note, the apology — note-writing is a way of life whereby you train yourself to think about another person. And when you see others, you can find yourself.

Are you ready to both connect with others and with yourself?
